Hip-hop star UNK to perform live in Doha

The charity event included an exclusive fashion show, performance by Grand Hyatt Doha’s Mystique Band, and an auction of fabulous fashion and beauty items of which funds were donated to Qatar Cancer Society.By Umer NangianaThe star from America’s hip-hop scene, Anthony Platt aka UNK is coming to town. Performing his hits live this weekend, the Walk it Out star would be spinning discs with other jockeys such as Rage and Santiago at A1 Nights, Grand Hyatt Doha, on October 23. Popularly known with his stage name, UNK is an American DJ and Rapper. He began spinning records in 1998, and, after meeting DJ Jelly and Montay, joined their entourage, the Southern Style disc jockeys. They performed for high school parties, proms, pep rallies, and other events around the US state of Georgia. In 2000, Big Oomp signed UNK to his label, Big Oomp Records. Some of his recent work has been featured on the 2K Sports NBA 2K9 game. He is known for his smash-hit Walk it Out. The single spawned a rare remix collaboration with Outkast’s Andre 3000 and Harlem’s Jim Jones. Lil Wayne took the track and spit his own rap. UNK followed his huge debut with another dance hit 2 Step.  In 2007, Atlanta’s dance-music making DJ was nominated for BET’s Viewers’ Choice award.  He released his sophomore album 2econd Season the following year.UNK is an Atlanta native whose debut album Beat’n Down Yo Block sold more than 200,000 copies and soared to number 21 on Billboard’s top R&B albums of 2006.Walk It Out and 2 Step became international phenomenons that rocked the hip-hop, R&B, and rap charts for multiple weeks. Walk it Out was certified Platinum and peaked at number 2 while 2 Step was certified Gold. Walk it Out is one of those songs that defies categories. It has that Big Oomp sound, which DJ UNK Walk it OutVideo means it’s definitely ATL, but it’s not snap and it’s not a typical crunk sound either. Walk it Out is a straight party jam. UNK has performed in many states in the US besides travelling to different countries in Europe and other parts of the world. The success of Beat’n Down Yo Block! scored UNK a collaboration with Three 6 Mafia on their 2008 hit I’d Rather which led to additional collaborations with superstars like T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Sean Kingston, E40, Jim Jones, Ray J, and Andre 3000. In November 2008, UNK released his sophomore album, 2econd Season, and created a track titled In Yo Face that was featured on the NBA 2k9 video game trailer. In August 2009, UNK suffered a heart attack, which led him to some pretty drastic changes in his life. Since recovering from his heart attack, UNK has signed with a new label Nimbus Universal which has its distribution through the executive music group Fontana brand. What makes UNK stand out from the pack of one-dimensional mixtape DJ’s is that he can rap, write and co-produce songs.
