Cut back to 2006, the year that Dhoom 2 released and you realise it was such a good time for so many of its cast. Hrithik Roshan had just had a blockbuster in Krrish. Abhishek Bachchan, with a string of decent hits like Dus, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Bluffmaster, was as much at the peak of his career as he ever would be. Aishwarya Rai meanwhile was the undisputed queen of the box office with even a Hollywood flick Mistress of Spices behind her. And the romance of Abhishek and Aishwarya would continue apace all during this period without too much fanfare until their wedding in 2007. Dhoom 2 was a huge hit but also showed why Abhishek would never be a superstar like his father. The movie was entirely owned by Hrithik and Aishwarya’s glamorous pairing and Abhishek merely remained a sideshow in it. That would be the tenor of Dhoom 3 also where Aamir Khan in a double role was the big draw. When it comes to Dhoom 4, it would therefore need an equally big superstar and the only two left of that stature are Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan. There are rumours that Yash Raj Films, the producers of the franchise, are keen on Salman and might approach him. That is obviously going to be a somewhat difficult casting given his old relationship with Aishwarya that ended so bitterly and that he would have to act with her husband Abhishek. The other curious rumour doing the rounds is that Dhoom 4 might see Hrithik returning again to star in the movie. And they might also add Amitabh Bachchan to the mix to create a buzz. Given the state of their careers, both Amitabh and Hrithik actually can manage very well without being in the movie but not so Abhishek whose career more or less gets a new lease of life everytime a Dhoom movie hits the screens. Now, if only they could get even Aishwarya back then the whole Bachchan family could be in Dhoom 4. Ash likely back in businessIt has now been over a week since Aishwarya Rai’s comeback movie Jazbaa finally hit the theatres. While it is not working any wonders at the box office, some trade analysts argue that since the movie was low budget, it has managed to get into profit zone and that makes it a hit. It could be made on the cheap because its main lead Aishwarya decided to opt for a profit sharing cut instead of a flat fee. She is also a producer of the movie. And one news report actually pegged the amount she made at Rs3 crore, which is a decent sum for a heroine. More importantly, the movie brings Aishwarya back into the reckoning as an actress following her long hiatus after having a baby. She will be in demand now and perhaps, get a few plum offers.Oh, brother! The ‘released’ brother’s release The story of Faisal Khan is a tragic one and it keeps returning to the public eye because he is the brother of Aamir Khan. Faisal was actually not a bad actor but his career never took off like his brother’s who tried his best to help him. They even acted in a movie called Mela that didn’t do very well at the box office. And then Faisal suddenly disappeared for a time and when he reappeared in the mid-2000s, it was with a slew of accusations against Aamir for keeping him confined at home. The media soon realised that he was mentally unwell and Aamir had been taking care of his treatment. More controversies emanated from within the family when Aamir’s father sought custody of Faisal and was granted it. But then he expired and Faisal was back under Aamir’s care. Recently, he suddenly once again hit the news with a movie of his, Chinar: Daastaan-E-Ishq, releasing last week. Strangely, he is also said to be working in another movie called Mental Khan. In one interview, he was asked about the title and its connection to his own condition as reported in the media. Faisal however, denied that he ever had any mental issues and that these news items were the result of family disputes which have been resolved now. He said that his present movie hadn’t been shown to Aamir for any feedback because of his apprehension that it wouldn’t meet his brother’s exacting standards. Aamir is also not seen anywhere in the movie’s promotions, something that he always does when it comes to other members of the family like Imran Khan or his wife’s movies.
