Huawei will put forward intelligent transportation solutions for different scenarios, including railway, roadway, aviation and seaport systems. Huawei will join the Ministry of Transport and business leaders this week to preview integrated technology solutions at the fourth annual Qatar Transport Forum 2015, taking place from today until September 16 in Doha. The global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider will put forward intelligent transportation solutions for different scenarios, including railway, roadway, aviation and seaport systems. According to Huawei, transport is a crucial driver of economic growth and social development within Qatar and the wider Gulf region.“The government of Qatar has made clear its ambitions to ensure that Qatar has a first-class domestic transport network that connects its economy and its people to the world,” said Fu Liangzhu, general manager of Huawei Qatar, one of the speakers at this year’s forum. Liangzhu noted, “The fact is that legacy transport networks are carrying increasing requirements, while new systems such as Metro and railway networks are completely greenfield projects. “A long-term investment vision is needed from day one. Communication systems that facilitate transport despatching, video surveillance, emergency command and daily operations are increasingly important in making transport systems operate smoothly and efficiently.”Organisers of this year’s Qatar Transport Forum have anticipated that approximately $34.79bn in transport projects is due to be awarded by 2018, according to a statement from Huawei. In particular, rail is increasingly seen as a backbone of national transport systems in the Gulf. Organisations such as Qatar Rail have previously announced plans to develop a long-distance railway system that will form part of the $200bn GCC cross-border rail network, which will help foster sustainable growth for the region’s economy, the statement notes, adding: “From long-haul freight to local commuter services, the use of advanced ICT systems are automating rail infrastructure for smoother operations and management while also offering passengers desired services like mobile WiFi and multimedia connectivity.” Huawei has a “wealth of experience” in deploying its ICT solutions for railways all around the world, including the Middle East, according to the statement.
