Cop ‘threatened’ by PA of senior officer
Evening Standard/London A personal assistant to a senior city of London police officer threatened to have a Pc sacked after a drunken row in a bar, a court heard.Kerrie Wadmore, 41, had drunk half a bottle of champagne and two cocktails when she confronted Pc Paul Szewczyk, telling him “I pay your wages” before claiming she’d get him fired, the court was told. She also called him a “lid” — a derogatory term for uniformed officers used by plain-clothed detectives and which refers to a constable’s helmet, the court heard. Wadmore, who is personal assistant to a chief superintendent, then repeatedly prodded him with her finger before he arrested and handcuffed her in January this year.Szewczyk was called to the Dirty Martini bar in Covent Garden because one of Wadmore’s group, in a dispute about a reserved table, allegedly lunged at a member of the security staff and the entire party was ejected.Outside, the man accused of lunging at the bouncer told Pc Szewczyk that one of his friends had been assaulted and he wanted an arrest made.Pc Szewczyk told City of London magistrates’ court: “At this point I first became aware of Wadmore. She approached me and said she paid my wages and she called me a lid.“Ms Wadmore said she had footage on her phone that showed the assault that her friend sustained. I said, ‘Well, show me what you have on your phone but from what I’ve seen on the CCTV I’m not sure it will change my mind.”“I could smell alcohol on her. Her eyes were glazed, her speech was slightly slurred and she was drunk.“She said to me, ‘As an officer you are refusing to look at my evidence. You wait until I speak to your PSD [professional standards department]’ and she said ‘I’m going to have your job.’”Michael Shaw, defending, put it to him: “You effectively had had enough of her asking you to do what you didn’t want to do and decided to nick her.”Wadmore, of Greenwich, denies being drunk and disorderly in public and assaulting a police officer.
