GCC water and electricity panel to meet in Doha

A meeting of the GCC Water and Electricity Co-operation Committee will be held in Doha as part of the 28th GCC Ministerial Meeting on September 8. The Qatar delegation will be headed by HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada.The ministerial meeting will be preceded by a preparatory meeting of the GCC ministries’ undersecretaries tomorrow, where they will discuss a number of important topics pertaining to water and electricity. Recommendations of the previous meeting will be discussed to enhance co-operation in the field of water and electricity and improve their quality, among other related issues.Thundery rain likelyThundery rain is expected in some parts of Qatar today, the Met Office has said.Hazy and partly cloudy conditions have been forecast for inshore areas, along with scattered rain. Some places may witness thundershowers during the day. Winds ranging from 5-15 knots are also expected in the inshore areas, going up to 20 knots at some places, accompanied by thunder, according to the weather office.Offshore areas are likely to experience partly cloudy and hazy-to-misty conditions.Abu Samra is expected to be the hottest place in the country with a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius.Nightlight recalledThe Ministry of Economy and Commerce has announced a free recall campaign for Patrull Nightlights due to a manufacturer’s defect. The nightlight’s plastic covering can detach and expose electrical components, posing an electrical shock hazard. The campaign is being carried out in co-operation with Al Futtaim Group - Ikea.Justice officials to hold meetingDoha will host the 19th GCC Justice Undersecretaries meeting beginning today. The two-day meeting will discuss a host of topics related to enhancing joint action in justice fields including recommendations of a series of meetings of the technical committees of experts held earlier this year. They will then be submitted to GCC justice ministers during their 27th meeting to be held in Doha on October 6 and 7.
