The workshops were attended by professionals from Total’s Qatari partner institutions.Emmanuel Garland, an environmental expert at Total, delivered a training presentation on protecting the environment, particularly in terms of atmospheric emissions and water usage. He provided insights into what is at stake for preventing pollution by upstream oil and gas activities, emphasised the constraints for operators and detailed recent techniques to respond to these challenges. In another training session, Dr Gerard Massonnat, owner of 13 patents and author of a number of scientific publications in reservoir engineering, shared his research experience on carbonate reservoirs and explained how to characterise and forecast them.TRC-Q is one of the eight worldwide research and development centres of Total Exploration & Production. It has become a hub for the development of new technologies, research and knowledge-sharing with Qatari partners. TRC-Q has organised five high-level training programmes since the beginning of the year, focusing on carbonate reservoirs, enhanced oil recovery, geochemistry, the environment and the future of the oil & gas industry.“As knowledge-sharing is a key to success, we strongly commit to such scientific presentations, which benefit our partners,” said Dr Philippe Julien, director of TRC-Q. “Total Research Centre – Qatar has already delivered several significant innovations; therefore, we are keen to share our fruitful research with Total’s Qatari industrial and academic partners.“These training (programmes) are part of our commitment to contribute to building a sustainable workforce in Qatar for the future of the oil & gas industry.”Total has had a continuous presence in Qatar for close to 80 years and is active in all branches of the country’s oil &gas sector.
