QNA/DohaOoredoo has enhanced the stability and availability of the voice services being delivered to its fixed line customers in Qatar with an overhaul of its Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) infrastructure via an Infoblox solution. The move forms part of the first phase in the upgrade of the company’s Ooredoo Fibre Service, and will be expanded next to deliver “better quality” of service for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) customers.Ooredoo Qatar COO Waleed al-Sayed said: “Ooredoo continues to deploy solutions that enable us to offer our customers the very best in fixed line services, as we continue to position Qatar as one of the best-connected countries in the world. “By implementing the Infoblox DHCP solution, we’re integrating another key solution into our infrastructure, so that we can continue to deliver the very best customer experience for the people of Qatar.”Al-Sayed said Ooredoo has identified stability, security, scalability, and proactive local support as the “key criteria” for the new solution, and also recognised it as “an opportunity to address consolidation.”The Infoblox DHCP servers were deployed at two sites in Qatar in load-balancing mode over two weeks. As each of the Infoblox DHCP servers is capable of generating 1,020 IP addresses per second, this gave the team a significant upgrade in performance. Furthermore, the use of two DHCP servers added a level of “robustness and guaranteed high availability.”Al-Sayed said: “The carrier-grade solution easily meets Ooredoo’s performance and scalability requirements. Having only two DHCP servers as opposed to a distributed set-up has effectively eliminated the maintenance challenges that Ooredoo’s operations team used to face.”He added: “Thanks to the comprehensive management and reporting tools that are now available, the team has ready access to a wealth of knowledge that aids compliance, troubleshooting, and future planning. They can easily generate detail-rich reports with vast amounts of usage statistics. This helps them understand and pre-empt trends and make modifications to the network as necessary.”
