Forum on traffic safety concludes

The Vision Zero Qatar-Sweden (Knowledge Sharing-Best Evidence Practice between Qatar and Sweden) forum concluded yesterday, presenting a wide range of road safety plans with more combined efforts.The second day’s sessions started with the opening remarks of Sweden’s Ambassador to Qatar Ewa Polano.Ambassador Polano highlighted that Qatar was on the right path of development and fast growth and that the country has achieved a lot in the field of construction and safety.During the ensuing sessions, a number of experts spoke on a wide range of topics related to road safety and the measures to be adopted to minimise road crashes and the related fatalities.Lieutenant Fahad Mubarak al-Abdulla from the Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior presented a paper on Crash Statistics in Qatar: Introduction to ‘One Second’ National Road Safety Brand.He said that Qatar’s strategic planning has achieved great success beyond expectation and has helped to considerably reduce the number of traffic deaths and accidents.Ademola Gideon Ilori from the Ministry of Interior presented a paper on Introduction to the National Traffic Safety Committee: A Snapshot of Road Safety in Qatar.Dr Wafa al-Yazidi, director of Medical Rehabilitation at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that traffic medicine, a field of medicine used in the developed countries, is not common in the Arab world.She added that that Doha would host the 24th International Traffic Medicine Association Congress in November.
