Stage set for pearl diving contest

The 4th edition of the Traditional Pearl Diving and Fishing contest (Senyar) will be launched at dawn tomorrow at Katara, the Cultural Village. A group of 730 competitors are taking part in 73 teams. Ahmed al-Hatmi, Katara’s director of the beaches department and head of the organising committee of Senyar said last year’s contest had less than 600 participants. The fitness and health checks of the participants, and technical inspection of the participating vessels have been completed. The contest will go on until Saturday.
