CMC proposes more land for Al Dosari Zoo

Mohamed Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve should be given more land to expand, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) recommended yesterday.At its regular biweekly session, the council said that the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) should study the possibility of increasing the area of such an important place due to its rising popularity and the increasing number of visitors.The CMC felt that Al Dosari Zoo, which houses a number of animals and birds, should be provided with an adequate parking area for the convenience of the visitors. The Ministry of Environment should consider the possibility of providing the zoo with subsidised animal fodder and veterinary services. The owner of the zoo, Mohamed al-Dosari, had submitted a request to the CMC asking its help to address his request to expand the area with an additional 1sq km so as to add new buildings and facilities and accommodate the increasing number of visitors. Al-Dosari pointed out that he has dedicated his life and wealth during the past 25 years for the zoo, which receives some 170,000 visitors a year and offer its services to the public free of charge.He said that he has spent around QR30mn from his pocket to develop and maintain the place over the years and wishes to get the support of the government to expand the place. The CMC expressed its full support to the issue and praised the efforts of al-Dosari in the service of Qatar.
