Qatar, Pakistan sign pacts to boost ties

QNA/IslamabadQatar and Pakistan signed several agreements aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations, following a round of official talks chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here yesterday. The Emir arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit to Pakistan. During the talks, the Emir and the Pakistani prime minister discussed scopes of co-operation between the two countries and means of enhancing and developing them to serve the common interests and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments. The session was attended by the official delegation accompanying the Emir and a number of Pakistani ministers and ranking officials. Following the talks, the Emir and the Pakistani prime minister witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding between the governments of the two countries. A co-operation agreement in the cultural field between the governments of Qatar and Pakistan was signed. Another agreement for co-operation in the field of youth and sports between governments of Qatar and Pakistan was signed. The Emir and the Pakistani prime minister also witnessed the signing of the first executive programme for co-operation in the fields of education, higher education and scientific research, and a cultural, scientific, technical, educational and information agreement between the governments of Qatar and Pakistan.Later the Emir held a meeting with the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain at the presidential palace in Islamabad yesterday. The meeting reviewed relations between the two countries and means of developing them in various fields, especially areas of co-operation and ways to enhance joint projects. The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir. On the Pakistani side, the meeting was attended by ministers and ranking officials.Later in the evening, the Emir attended a dinner banquet hosted in his honour and the accompanying delegation by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Headquarters of the Council of Ministers.
