Mitra Mandal beat Serandeep-B to lift IBQ Div II trophy

Skipper Bhushan T and Abhay of Mitra Mandal receive the winner’s trophy from chief guest and IBQ’s head of Retail Banking Andrew Ball.By Sports Reporter/DohaMitra Mandal beat Serandeep-B by four wickets in a thriller to lift the 2015 IBQ Masters Cricket Tournament Division II title.Winning the toss, Mitra Mandal put Serandeep-B in to bat.Openers Nishanta (25 runs, 2 sixes, 2 fours) and Ranasinghe (13 runs) gave a good start to Serandeep but in a bid to accelerate, they started losing wickets at regular intervals and were wrapped up for 134.Prakash (19 runs, 1 six, 1 four), Jerome (18 runs, 2 sixes) and Roshan (18 runs, 1 six) added to Serandeep’s score.For Mitra Mandal, Ajay bowled well to claim 3 wickets while Vinod, Bhushan and Abhijit took 2 wickets each, and Pritesh scalped one.In reply, Mitra Mandal started well and were 71 for the loss of 2 wickets after the first 10 overs. However, some good bowling and fielding by Serandeep-B left Mitra Mandal struggling at 121 for 7 at the end of 18 over.Needing 16 runs off 12 deliveries, Vinod hammered a six and a boundary off Bandulla to clinch the victory for Mitra Mandal with three balls to spare. Vinod was unbeaten on 28 runs with 2 sixes and a boundary. Pritesh was not out on 19 runs with 3 fours, while Kunal added 16 runs (1 six).For Serandeep-B, Nishanta took three wickets while Roshan, Dilal and Chandana took a wicket each. Nishanta also took 3 catches which earned him the Man of the Match award.The prize distribution ceremony was attended by supporters and well-wishers. A Sri Lankan band added colour and glamour to the festivities. They were especially awarded gifts by the organisers.
