250 PHC nurses take part in workshop

Around 250 school and Primary Health Care Corporation nurses have attended a workshop organised by the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) on preparations for the annual vaccination campaign against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) for first-grade secondary school students in the country.The participating nurses were trained on various relevant issues by experts in the field.Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director of SCH’s public health department, said such campaigns are held annually to protect school students from communicable diseases. He pointed out that the campaign targets around 14,000 students across the country, scheduled to be held over two weeks.Dr Mohamed al-Rumaihi, director of SCH’s health protection and communicable diseases control department, said the last case of pertussis in Qatar was registered in 2009 and there has been no record of tetanus or diphtheria cases for more than 10 years. He stressed that the campaign has been a success since its launch in 2011.
