Qatar’s Tax Administration System (TAS) was on the spotlight at a seminar hosted by KPMG here on Tuesday. TAS was introduced by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Public Revenue and Taxes Department (PRTD) in order to be in line with Qatar’s vision 2030 and enhance the relationship between the regulators and the tax payers.TAS is designed to be an online platform for companies to file tax returns and help with file management processes. KPMG in Qatar’s dedicated tax management team held the seminar to help taxpayers understand the various aspects of the new system. Craig Richardson, partner and tax lead for KPMG in Qatar said, “It was great to be able listen to people who will be using the TAS system and help them to understand what they need to do and how they need to do it. Since the TAS system promises to increase the efficiency and communication of the PRTD with taxpayers, it is advisable for businesses to get expert assistance to ensure compliance with the system and simplify tax administration. The seminar was attended by more than 80 tax specialists and leaders of companies in Qatar as well as representatives from the PRTD. The seminar was facilitated by Jamal Fakhro, managing partner in KPMG Bahrain and Qatar, Craig Richardson and Slim Arous, senior tax manager. Specifically, the seminar covered TAS implementation, online compliance processes and presented the advantages and challenges related to TAS.
