Qatar condemns attack on Saudi border

Qatar has strongly condemned and denounced the “criminal attack”, which occurred in the border area north of Saudi Arabia, killing and wounding a number of securitymen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. The statement stressed Qatar’s keenness on standing with Saudi Arabia in protecting its borders from any aggression or attack targeting its security and stability. The statement reiterated Qatar’s firm stance against violence .4 shops closed for violating safety rulesThe Health Monitoring Section in Al Rayyan Municipality closed four shops for violating food safety rules and destroyed 1,622kg of meat,  8,361 food packets and the carcass of 26 sheep during the month of December, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.A total of 18 food samples were sent to the Central Laboratory. The Health Monitoring  Department in Al Wakrah Municipality executed field visits, also during December, to food establishments and recorded violations and issued fines totalling QR87,500. One food establishment was closed for selling food unfit for human consumption and  eight food samples were taken for examination in Al Zain area. Other violations for breach of the health requirements in this area were detected and 390kg of food materials destroyed.Photo expo opens todayAn exhibition, titled “Zabrah” featuring the works of six Qatari photographers will open today at Katara’s building No. 19. Hayiya al-Mohannadi, Shoaa bint Jassim, Abdullah Ali al-Mannai, Fatima Rashed al-Abdulla, Maryam al-Khawajah and Dana al-Khalaf are the participants. The exhibition will continue until January 29.WaterloggingResidents of a neighbourhood in North Muaither have urged the authorities concerned to solve the problem of water accumulation on a portion of Al Hyan Street, which extends from Umm al-Dom Commercial Street, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.The residents point out that the presence of stagnant water in the area poses environmental and health hazards, especially for children and the elderly, the daily adds.The stagnant water has led to the spread of insects and rodents in the locality, according to the residents.
