Qatar ranks second in Qur’an contest

Qatar has ranked second in the 10th King Mohamed VI International Award for Recitation, Memorisation and Interpretation of the Holy Qur’an, held in Morocco recently.

The Qatari contestant - Youssuf Ahmed Youssuf Asheer - from the Holy Qur’an and Islamic Dawah and Guidance Department, has ranked second in the contest in which 50 contestants from 37 Arab and Muslim countries took part, the Ministry of Awqaf said in a press statement.

Asheer expressed his pleasure over winning the second place in the competition, saying the Qatari youths’ achievements in international Holy Qur’an competitions reflect Qatar’s interest in the Holy Qur’an and its memorisation.

He pointed to his preparedness from an early age for the competition, which he said has contributed to his achievement.

He also pointed to the importance of international competitions of the Holy Qur’an and its role in the acquisition of knowledge and experience and in strengthening the bonds of brotherhood between contestants.
