GCC foreign ministers hold meeting

The GCC Ministerial Council of Foreign Ministers held a meeting ahead of the 35th session of the GCC Supreme Council at Doha Sheraton Hotel yesterday.

The meeting, chaired by Qatar’s HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, reviewed topics on the agenda before submitting them to GCC leaders for their summit, which took place yesterday evening.

The ministers also discussed the summit’s final statement and the Doha declaration, which were issued at the end of the summit.

Later, addressing a joint press conference  with GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid al-Zayani,  at the conclusion of the GCC summit, HE Dr al-Attiyah stressed the GCC leaders’ resolve to  promote and deepen the co-operation among the GCC States in various fields and strengthen fraternal ties and upgrade them to serve the common interests of the countries and the well-being and prosperity of the peoples.

Dr al-Attiyah also stressed the GCC leaders’ keenness to ensure security and internal stability of the States, which he said is an integral part of regional and global security, especially in light of the challenges, risks and threats in the Middle East.

 “In this sense the summit stressed the sovereign right of the UAE over its three islands and called  on  the Republic of Iran to respond to the UAE’s efforts to resolve this issue through negotiations or international arbitration.”

The  GCC leaders reaffirmed  their condemnation of terrorism in all its forms,  whatever its origin and causes “and expressed their rejection of all unexpected forms of extremism, which Shariah law would not accept in any way. They also called for working hard to address its real reasons, he noted.
