Triaging system launched at Omar Bin Khattab clinic
The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has launched the patient triaging system in Omar Bin Khattab Health Centre from this month. |
This service was implemented in Abu Nakhla Health Centre in June 2014 and will be extended to all health centres by March 2015.
Triaging is done by a team of well-trained doctors and nurses. It is implemented as part of the National Health Strategy which aims at improving the health of the population of the country.
Under the system, patients who attend the health centre without a prior appointment, will be assessed by well trained and professional nurses who will allocate a priority in which the patients should be treated by a physician.
Those who, based on their assessment, need to be treated by a physician urgently, will be seen first.
The remaining patients, with more routine needs, will be allocated an appointment on the date and time that is convenient to them.
Dr Samya Ahmad al-Abdulla, regional director for Central Region at PHCC, said: “The aim of triage is to ensure that patients are sorted and treated according to clinical need.
This will ensure that those in most need are given priority. Patients returning for an appointment will be given a full 10 minutes if required, ensuring that they have adequate time with the physician.”
