BWS triumphs in Nepali volleyball tournament

By Usha Wagle Gautam The two-week-long Nonresident Nepalese Volleyball Tournament concluded with the Baglung Welfare Society (BWS) lifting the cup after a sour end to an otherwise fine tournament. BWS were declared the winners after Love Run Nepal Palpa abandoned the game in Sanaiya-43, citing what they described as misbehaviour on part of BWS players. The tournament was sponsored by International Money Express (IME). BWS was given a cash prize of QR3,100 along with medals, certificates and the winner’s trophy. The prizes were distributed by IME-Qatar head Jitendra Panday and BWS president Ramesh Bhatta. A total of 27 teams competed in the tournament. The Love Run Nepal Palpa (LRNP) team was given a cash prize of QR2,100, along with medals, certificates and the runners-up trophy. The Tamu Service Society (TSS) finished third and got a cash prize of QR1,100, along with medals, certificates and the third-place trophy. Madan Gurung of TSS and Shankar Thakuri of LRNP won the individual awards of the best player and the best lifter, respectively. Likewise, Belum Pun of Baglung Welfare Society was given the fair-play award.The players who played in the BWS team are: Ramu Bohara, Belu Gauchan, Ratna Bohara, Lalit Pun, Deepak Thapa, Govinda BK, Durga Bhujel, Ishu Thapa, Himmat Gurung, Bishnu Bohara, Nagendra Paudel and Prem Gurung. The players who played in the LRNP team are: Shankar Thakuri, Pahal Gharti Magar, Govinda Oli, Suresh Baral, Toya Shrestha, Tilak Khamja, Pashupati Rana, Mek Bahadur Gurung, Santosh Sigdel, Pradip Thapa, Hem Wagle and Chitra Bahadur Rana.  The players who played in the TSS team are: Gaurav Gurung, Madan Gurung, Milan Gurung, Gujman Gurung, Suraj Gurung, Shyam Gurung, Gam Prasad Gurung, Arjun GC, Mohan Sunuwar, Nil Gurung, Purna Gurung and Padam Gurung.The matches were refereed by Lekram Lamsal and Madan Gurung.
