Workers’ housing project sees progress

The contract for providing MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) services for Package 2 of the second phase of the Barwa Al Baraha project has been awarded to Mercury Mena.

Package 2, which will have 32 buildings with each comprising 130 rooms, will accommodate 24,000 workers.

Barwa Al Baraha is located in the Industrial Area and is one of the largest integrated workers’ accommodation projects in the region.

Mercury Mena will provide MEP services for the accommodation buildings, four dining areas, two mosques and four toilet blocks as well as six substations. The scope of services will include plumbing and drainage, electrical works, ELV installations, HVAC works and life safety works.

Workers can also enjoy facilities such as two playgrounds, restaurants and utility shops.

Barwa Al Baraha will provide all necessary facilities for residents, including sports, a shopping mall, restaurants, a medical centre and public spaces.

Mercury Mena will work with Construction & Reconstruction Engineering Co Qatar (CRC), which is the main contractor for the project, and consultants Qatar Design Consortium (QDC).

Barwa Al Baraha is being constructed in two phases over approximately 1.8mn sqm, with a capacity of 53,000 workers. Phase 1, which is now complete, provides Qatar’s largest truck and vehicle parking space, with 4,200 parking spaces for trucks of different sizes.
