Philips deploys latest equipment at Sidra

The GCC’s first high-intensity focused ultrasound (Hifu) machine has been deployed at Sidra Medical and Research Centre (Sidra), Royal Philips has said in a statement.

The Philips Sonalleve MR-Hifu, through a process known as ablation, uses focused high-intensity ultrasound waves and magnetic resonance imaging, which creates acute energy to treat masses with pinpoint accuracy.

Using this, clinicians can non-invasively remove painful uterine fibroids in women without damaging the surrounding tissue. The technology is also used to provide palliative therapy for patients with bone metastasis - the treatment given to relieve the symptoms and reduce the suffering caused by cancer in the bones.

Royal Philips Global CEO Frans van Houten was in Qatar to reinforce the company’s commitment to Qatar National Vision 2030. Qatar’s healthcare initiatives are at the forefront in the GCC, with many of the country’s key healthcare providers reinforced with the latest equipment and treatment technology from Philips, the statement adds.
