The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Johns Hopkins University.
The MoU is part of SCH’s efforts to broaden its scope of partnerships with leading global academic institutions in order to improve the skills and professional capabilities of its health professionals.
The MoU was signed by Ahmed bin Abdulla al-Khulaifi, assistant secretary-general at SCH, and Michael J Klag, dean of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Under the MoU, the university will conduct a variety of training workshops in Qatar for two years on different health-related fields and topics. These include combating infection, research and study, evaluation of communication skills with patients and customer service skills. The MoU also focuses on building the capabilities of workers in the health information and media fields.
Al-Khulaifi hailed the MoU, saying it would reflect positively on the professional performance of health professionals at SCH and in other supporting jobs.
Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director, Public Health Department at SCH, stressed that the council has entered into the partnership with Johns Hopkins University as part of its efforts to advance public health services in Qatar.
Klag said Qatar has witnessed a development boom in recent years, thereby attaining a significant position in the modern world. “The university has provided its services to the Arab world for around 30 years and is familiar with the requirements of the region.”
