Sony Mobile Communications has made key product announcements at IFA 2014 Berlin with innovations across its Xperia smartphone, tablet and SmartWear portfolio.

The products, including the premium Xperia Z3 series, are expected to be available in the region shortly, Sony Middle East has said in a statement.

IFA Berlin, a leading consumer electronics fair that attracts visitors and exhibitors from around the world, is being held until September 10.

“Sony is relentless in its pursuit of innovation and we believe that consumers shouldn’t settle for good experiences, but demand great ones,” said Kunimasa Suzuki, president and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications.

Among the new products announced is the flagship Xperia Z3 series - premium smartphones and tablets available in a choice of form factors.

The Xperia Z3 Dual blends design and engineering craftsmanship. Weighing just 152g, it has an easy-to-use interface and symmetrical design, and also boasts of a 7.3mm super-slim rounded aluminium frame and durable tempered glass panels.

The available colours include white, black and copper.

The Xperia Z3 Compact features a beautifully rounded liquid reflection frame with tempered glass panels. It is the only smartphone to deliver “uncompromised performance” in a compact design and is only 8.6mm thick and 129gm in weight. The colour range includes orange and green, in addition to the classic white and black.

The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is the world’s “slimmest and lightest” waterproof tablet. At just 6.4mm slim and weighing less than 270gm, the 8” tablet feels weightless in one’s hand. It is available in white or black. The Xperia Z3 series features a range of features and advanced performance.

Another new product announced is the Xperia E3 Dual. A mid-range smartphone, the E3 Dual features the flagship Z3 series design, a 4.5” display, 5MP camera with HDR and creative camera apps, and fast performance – all at an “affordable” price.

The Xperia E3 Dual is designed with resilient corners and a scratch-resistant screen made with durable tempered glass to keep the phone looking smart for longer. It is available in a range of colours – white, black, and copper (these may vary by market).

Meanwhile, the innovation continues in Sony’s SmartWear Experience with two new additions - SmartBand Talk and SmartWatch 3 (in select markets).

A powerful lifelogging wearable, SmartBand Talk features a curved 1.4” e-paper display that is highly visible and clear, giving a user always-on updates of his/her Lifelog (a personal Android application from Sony that captures and tells one’s story) activities, notifications and to tell the time at a glance. The waterproof (IP68 rated) design is available in black at launch, with further colours available later in the year.
