Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund are close to re-signing Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa after he had two mostly unsuccessful years at Manchester United.
Talks between the clubs are in an advanced stage, according to German and British news reports Friday. The transfer window is open until Monday.
Kagawa, 25, was a fan favourite in Dortmund where he played 2010-2012, winning the Bundesliga in 2011 and a league and cup double in 2012. He scored 21 goals in 49 Bundesliga games.
He left for United on a contract until 2016 but never managed to be a regular starter under Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes. He also didn’t play in the first two Premier League games under new manager Louis van Gaal.
Dortmund are reportedly ready to pay around 10 million euros (13 million dollars) for the return of Kagawa.
“We have two or three days left. Then we will see if he is back in the BVB (Dortmund) shirt,” Dortmund official Lars Ricken told Sky TV.
Coach Juergen Klopp in mid-week did also not rule out late transfer market activities, giving an injury list including midfielders Ilkay Guendogan and Nuri Sahin.
