Tafawoq course gets APM’s international accreditation
Guests at the international accreditation ceremony of Tafawoq’s training course by APM in Doha recently.
Tafawoq’s ‘Essentials of Project Management’ (EoPM) training course has been awarded with international accreditation by the Association for Project Management (APM).
The award will provide participants on the next ‘Essentials of Project Management’ Course (EoPM) with the opportunity of undergoing formal certification examination in accordance with the APM Project Management Qualification.
Tafawoq, the world-class project management centre, established in Qatar by partners Qatar Petroleum (QP), Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Qatar Shell, aims to develop the relevant competencies of Qatar’s project management community in order to ensure the delivery of the country’s capital investment projects.
The APM is a member organisation of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) in Switzerland and is the largest independent professional body of its kind in Europe with some 500 corporate and 18,500 individual members.
On Tafawoq’s achievement, Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani, PhD, president, HBKU, said, “The collaboration between HBKU, QP and Qatar Shell has demonstrated what can be accomplished by combining the expertise and experience of the public, private and academic sectors. I am extremely proud of the accreditation of Tafawoq by the APM, which is a clear illustration of how HBKU, Qatar’s emerging research university, is already benefiting our society and economy. Its rich array of local and international partnerships positions it to contribute much more in the years and decades to come.”
Participants in Tafawoq’s ‘Essentials of Project Management’ programme will now be able to be assessed and accredited by IPMA.
With an alumnus of more than 200 project professionals, Tafawoq has made great strides since its inauguration in 2012.
Wael Sawan, managing director and chairman of Qatar Shell companies, said, “Formed by its partners in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030, the Tafawoq initiative provides the GCC’s oil and gas professionals, as well as those from other sectors, with the opportunity to acquire the fundamental leadership and project management skills necessary to contribute effectively to sustainable regional growth. Tafawoq, therefore seeks to play a pivotal role in the development of a thriving project management community across the region.”
The Tafawoq method of education is based on the Shell Project Academy’s ‘Pentagon Model’, an internationally recognised and accredited programme, which ensures that project professionals receive executive education and training opportunities.
Tafawoq’s participants gain valuable experience from accomplished and recognised project management professionals using virtual learning, work-based activities and face-to-face training, in addition to coaching, mentoring and networking.
