Protesters clash with police over defence pact with US

Filipino protesters scuffle with riot police during a protest against the Enhanced Defence Co-operation Agreement (Edca) at a street heading towards the US Embassy on the Philippine-American Friendship Day, in Manila yesterday. The Enhanced Defence Co-operation Agreement (Edca) allows US troops to access designated military camps, construct new facilities and position equipment, aircraft and vessels in the Philippines, more than 20 years after US naval and air bases were shut down in the country.
