A number of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) members have voiced their concerns that the insecticides used by the municipality for residential areas are not effective enough compared to those used by private companies, reported yesterday local Arabic daily Arrayah

They further demanded that the entities concerned should import more potent insecticides. Besides, they should hire an adequate number of really qualified staff to reduce the waiting time of applicants for the service.

The CMC members suggested that municipalities should conduct regular spraying of insecticides at key areas that attract rodents and insects, such as garbage containers and sanitary drainage manholes.

“The currently available trained staff on this businesses at the municipalities could only cover an estimate of 20% of the population in the country. So an effective awareness campaign should be launched to instruct people on how to avoid the things and practices that attract rodents and insecticides. Further, garbage containers should be cleared as frequently as possible and should not be left in place for more than 24 hours,” pointed out CMC member Mubarak Frayish.

However, CMC member Mohamed al-Shafi said that the issue of ineffective insecticides and shortages in quantities available at the municipalities has been resolved and the insecticides in use now are of good quality.

Besides, municipalities have enough supplies and reach out for applicants within minimum time.

Yet, he also demanded more regular spraying campaigns to avoid any potential increase in rodents and insects.
