The Qatar 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship Organising Committee and The Ritz-Carlton, Doha yesterday announced a partnership that will allow the two organisations to collaborate on a series of activities during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Qatar 2015 will sponsor a special themed Ramadan tent on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton, Doha.
The Ramadan tent will include activities designed to encourage the community to become more involved with sport, particularly handball.
Planned activities include work with the Qatar Red Crescent to distribute 150 Iftar boxes every day to workers during the Holy Month, to demonstrate the spirit of giving and to enable them break their fast.
Dr Thani Abdulrahman al-Kuwari, Director General, said: “Our objective is to spread awareness about the handball game, to engage the community in our activities and to uphold the traditions of Qatar.
“We have organised a series of special events, with a particular focus on the next generation. Hosting the draw during the holy month of Ramadan will help us projecting to the world the values and traditions of the State of Qatar.”
Over Garangao, the combined teams from Qatar 2015, Ritz-Carlton, Doha and Qatar Red Crescent will visit Souq Waqif, distributing goody bags to children there.
The Qatar 2015 World Championship’s official mascot Fahed will play a key role in all events. Fahed represents a young Qatari boy who has inherited the love of adventure and new experiences from his ancestors, but most importantly, he loves the game of handball. Fahed’s main mission is to make handball one of the most popular sports.
His responsibilities include introducing handball to the community through spreading joy across Qatar during the Holy Month.
He will be supporting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging everyone to practice sports.
To begin, Fahed will invite 60 children from the Dhreima Foundation for Iftar at the Ritz-Carlton, Doha.
The Iftar, which will be held on July 6 aims to leave the children with lasting memories of the Holy Month, and inspire young people to be more active in sports and engage them in the sport of handball.
As well as working together during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Ritz-Carlton, Doha will host the official draw for the Qatar 2015 Men’s World Championship that will take place on July 20, 2014.
Hoss Vetry, Cluster General Manager, The Ritz-Carlton Hotels, Doha, said: “We are honoured to have been selected by the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship 2015 to be their exclusive and official draw host hotel in Qatar.
“We believe that The Ritz-Carlton Doha represents all expectation of one can anticipate from the legendary Ritz-Carlton services from all of the ladies and gentlemen.”
Following the completion of the European play-offs earlier this month, 20 of the final 24 competing nations have been confirmed, with remaining teams set to qualify June 29.
