The German embassy is considering the possibility of supporting the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, which will be held in December this year.
Ambassador Angelika Storz-Chakarji discussed this matter yesterday with Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager of Katara.
The envoy’s visit to Katara came as a follow-up to a previous visit by her, when the possibility of holding a festival at Katara by the end of this year was discussed.
The German embassy’s support for Katara’s award would be mainly about the translation of the first three winning novels, thereby putting Arabic literature in the spotlight worldwide, including in Germany.
After the meeting with Dr al-Sulaiti, the ambassador toured some facilities and the exhibitions currently hosted by Katara. During the tour, she was briefed by Darwish Ahmed al-Shaibani, director of the Marketing and International Affairs Department, Katara.
