Ras Laffan outreach programme diamond sponsor of CSR report
The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP) has announced its diamond sponsorship of the Qatar CSR Report 2013, an indicator of economic and social growth. |
Abdulaziz al-Muftah, director of Industrial Cities at Qatar Petroleum (QP) and president of RLIC-COP, said the community outreach programme was developed to create a “respectful, trust-based” partnership between companies in Ras Laffan and surrounding communities and to design sustainable programmes for the community in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 2011-16.
He said RLIC-COP contributes to three strategic areas - education, health, environment and safety awareness and social development.
By developing these areas, al-Muftah said, RLIC-COP is able to contribute towards the long-term sustainability of the local community.
RLIC-COP initiatives include the support and sponsorship of various national and social events in Qatar, such as Qatar National Day, National Sports Day, Community Skills Development, and road safety awareness campaigns, among others.
Moza al-Mohannadi, RLIC-COP community liaison lead, said all major RLIC companies that support corporate social responsibility are members of the outreach programme.
The members include companies like QP, Al Khaleej Gas, Dolphin Energy, Oryx GTL, Qatargas, RasGas, and Pearl GTL.
“The programme endeavours to benefit society through working with authorities and contributing to local programmes that will in turn bring progress to the region and create opportunities for the youth through professional training that will prepare them for employment,” al-Mohannadi said.
Khalifa al-Mohannadi, general manager, Qatar CSR network, said the 2013 report has focused on several aspects that RLIC-COP has addressed, which highlight CSR as a base to provide incentives and the appropriate environment to support and build the capacities of the Al-Shamal community and its surrounding areas.
“It also underscores the programme’s accomplishments as a catalyst for achieving sustainability and prosperity for these communities,” he said.
Qatar University is the strategic partner for the 2013 report and its gold sponsors for the second consecutive year are Ooredoo and ExxonMobil Qatar. Energy companies such as Sasol, Qapco, Qafco, Qafac, and Shell have also extended their support by providing silver sponsorship. Bronze sponsors for this year include Al Khaliji Bank and Qatar International Islamic Bank.
COP is comprised of a consortium of industrial companies located in the northern region, including QP, Al Khaleej Gas, RasGas, Qatargas, Dolphin Energy Limited, Pearl GTL, and Oryx GTL, which collectively support the areas of Smaismah, Al Daayen, Um Qarn, Al Khor, Al Dhakira, Al Kaaban, Al Ghariyah, Al Ghuwairiya, Madinat Al Shamal, Al Ruwais, Abu Az Zuluf, and Fuwayrit.
