Seminar sheds light on QNRF research projects
The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) recently hosted the third edition of Research Outcomes Seminars (ROS) which highlighted innovative research projects in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
The ROS are a Qatar Foundation Research & Development initiative designed to provide researchers with a public platform to share the results of their QNRF-funded cutting-edge research projects.
“Through ROS we want to spread knowledge about the excellent research taking place in Qatar and demonstrate to stakeholders from various sectors and the public at large how research funded by QNRF will benefit communities in Qatar and globally,” QNRF Executive Director Dr Abdul Sattar al-Taie said.
Dr Ali Jaoua, professor from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Qatar University, presented his innovative text mining platform, comprising a set of tools designed to extract and analyse information pertaining to online financial data in Arabic and English and adaptable to several other languages.
Decision-makers can then be alerted to any newsworthy developments that are identified.
Dr Daniele Trinchero, professor and director of iXem Labs Foundation at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and Dr Abdullah Kadri, senior R&D expert from Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre (QMIC), presented an innovative solution to monitor underground civil infrastructures for fluid transportation and distribution.
The researchers’ technology uses microwave wireless sensors that can flow inside pipes to determine the presence of existing or potential leakages by monitoring variations in noise levels produced by fluid flowing in the pipe.
Director of Kindi Lab for Computing Research at Qatar University, Dr Qutaibah Malluhi, presented his team’s research about managing data in cloud computing to protect the privacy of individuals and ensure that sensitive information is known only to the user.
Dr Amr Mohamed, assistant professor from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Qatar University, spoke about his team’s development of energy-efficient wireless body sensor networks. These wireless computing systems based on wearable sensors can be adapted for use in healthcare and biomedical research.
