New diversion on streets leading to Markhiya R/A
With the start of a new phase of the conversion of Al Markhiya Roundabout to a signalised intersection, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a new road diversion on streets leading to the roundabout. The diversions started last night (June 5) and will continue until July 20. During this period, only two lanes will be open for traffic on all streets leading to Al Markhiya Roundabout - the middle and right lanes as shown on the accompanying map. The road diversions are meant to facilitate works on converting Al Markhiya Roundabout into a signal-controlled intersection, which started on May 15 and is expected to last until October. The new intersection will involve four lanes in each direction on Khalifa Street, in addition to three lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right. This is in addition to Jasim bin Hamad Street, which will also involve four lanes in each direction, besides three lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right. During the project, work will take place in the following areas: • The first area stretches over 600m along Khalifa Street from Al Markhiya Toundabout towards TV Roundabout• The second stretches over 1,000m along Khalifa Street from Al Markhiya Roundabout towards Al Gharrafa Interchange (also known as Immigration Interchange) • The third stretches over 300m from Al Markhiya Roundabout towards Jasim bin Hamad Street• The fourth stretches over 300m from Al Markhiya Roundabout towards Street 245 (also known as Arab League Street).Ashghal will instal road signs to advise motorists of the diversions. It has also requested all road users to abide by speed limits and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
