Trillanes confirms race for vice presidency

Sen. Antonio Trillanes  has announced he is ready to run for the vice presidency in 2016, but will leave the decision to the Nacionalista Party (NP).

“I will definitely run (for a higher position) but I will abide by the decision of my party,” Trilanes said in a television interview on Thursday night.

He is currently in his second term as senator, which means that he will not be allowed to run for re-election when his term ends in 2019.

When asked if he is eyeing the vice-presidential post, Trillanes said he is ready to run for vice president but he still needs to get the blessing of the NP.His partymate and Senate Majority leader Alan Peter Cayetano is also expected to run for a higher position, reportedly the presidency.

Although Cayetano is yet to confirm his plans for 2016, he had admitted to intending to run for president but it does not necessarily mean that he will do so in the 2016 polls.
