QITCOM 2014 surpasses all expectations
The third edition of the Qatar ICT Conference and Exhibition (QITCOM) 2014, which concludes today, has surpassed the expectations of organisers, with more than 2,000 visitors attending Day One of the three-day event on Monday at the Qatar National Convention Centre. |
Top officials, executives and representatives from over 100 local and international ICT companies, banks and government agencies attended the opening ceremony.
Besides the discussion sessions, the organiser has lined up a number of competitions for entrepreneurs and students, as well as signature offerings aimed at reflecting aspirations and growth potential of the Qatari ICT sector.
Experts on Day Two highlighted the role of ICT in the business sector and its significant contributions in achieving social and economic development in keeping with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Benefitting from this feat, the Qatari government is considered the largest consumer of the services offered by the ICT sector.
Former LinkedIn managing director Kevin Iris discussed the increasing popularity of social media in Qatar and the region and its impact to the community.
They also tackled issues on previous ICT projects particularly the role companies can play in achieving high levels of future technological growth for the public sector in Qatar and in the region.
“The patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, for this event reiterates the government’s commitment to build institutions that are based on effective resource management, excellent standards in productivity and efficiency to serve the public and that supports the development goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Rinal Chaaban, QITCOM’s project lead.
Citing its theme ‘Innovate Today for the Future of Qatar’, she said QITCOM 2014 is hosting local, regional and global ICT experts who share insights on noteworthy ICT topics.
Chaaban said they have attracted some of the best local and international companies by offering a solid platform for industry leaders, innovators, ICT professionals and enthusiasts to come together, network and create new business opportunities.
“We aspire to make QITCOM the most important event for the telecommunications and information technology sector in Qatar through the participation of international speakers at the conference,” she added
Organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and managed by fischerAppelt, the three-day event was inaugurated by HE Sheikh Abdullah, who stressed the importance of ICT sector in Qatar’s development goals in his keynote speech.
HE the Minister of ICT, Dr Hessa Sultan al-Jaber, noted a surge of 11% last year in the telecommunications sector and expressed confidence it will continue to grow at a rate of 9% to 12% in the next five years.
