MoI, McDonald’s hold awareness campaign

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), in collaboration with Al Mana Restaurants & Food Company, the franchisee for McDonald’s in Qatar, has held an awareness campaign for families and children. The event was organised as part of efforts undertaken to spread safety and security awareness and strengthen the partnership between the police and community members.The activities of the two-day campaign started at 6pm on May 22 at the McDonald’s Airport branch. MoI security and service departments, including Al Fazaa, Traffic Department, Community Policing of the Capital Security Department, General Directorate of Civil Defence and the Public Relations Department, took part in the events.The department officials presented guidelines and advice on safety and security topics to the participants and introduced the services and security-related measures initiated by MoI departments. Besides, a number of booklets, brochures and other printouts were distributed and traffic awareness films shown during the event. The restaurant management conducted several competitions for children and families, which helped raise public awareness about traffic and fire safety. Police officials helped the children gain knowledge of the services and initiatives of each department and the kids also got a chance to take a look at police cars and learn about the facilities and systems provided in them. The MoI’s awareness figures, Police is my Friend, Aman and Salama, as well as Mcdonald’s characters Birdie, Hamburglar and Ronald were also part of the campaign. The McDonald’s characters delivered traffic and fire safety advice and introduced the emergency numbers, 999 and 992 (for the deaf and dumb), which should be dialled during emergencies at home or school.  The director of Operations at McDonald’s Qatar, Ayub Hassan Mezfari, expressed pleasure at partnering with the MoI in the awareness campaign and said their company was particular about ensuring the safety and security of customers. He added that it was a good opportunity for the company to highlight its social responsibility by initiating awareness campaigns.Ghada Kamal, marketing manager of the company, said the joint campaign was highly fruitful and a number of families could learn a lot on safety- and security-related matters. She added that the awareness campaign would be held at the Dukhan branch on May 29 and at the Al Sadd branch on June 5 and 6.
