Mathaf has announced the opening of its second student exhibition, “Mathaf Student Art Exhibition: Black and White”. |
The exhibition is the result of a student art competition launched by the Education Department at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in the fall of 2013. All schools in Qatar were invited to participate and the museum received over 300 submissions from schools within and outside Doha.
Students created works ranging from installations, video and paintings to mixed media, sculptures and photographs.
After much anticipation, the museum has selected the winning works that will be presented to the public on May 24 at 3pm.
Students, families and the public are invited to join the exhibition opening, celebrating the artistic expressions of Qatar’s students.
The winning artworks have been selected by a judging panel, including staff from Qatar Museums, the Public Art department, Katara Art Centre and Msheireb Art Centre, in addition to Mathaf staff from the Education and Curatorial departments.
The panel evaluated and judged the artworks based on concept originality (the expression of creative, unique and complex concepts), inventive use of material among others.
“Mathaf Student Art Exhibition: Black and White” will be on view from May 24 until June 26. Admission is free.
