Recovering Napoles keen on longer stay in hospital
By Ritchie A Horario/Manila TimesThe camp of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles yesterday asked a Makati court to allow her to stay longer at the Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) to prevent post-surgery complications. In an urgent motion, Napoles’ lawyers asked Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch Judge Elmo Alameda to allow the extension of their client’s stay at OsMak as doctors have observed bleeding in her private parts.Diosfa Valencia, the clerk of court, said Alameda has scheduled the hearing on the latest motion of Napoles tomorrow.Alameda had ordered the Philippine National Police to bring back Napoles to her detention cell in Fort Santo Domingo in Santa Rosa, Laguna, also tomorrow.Lawyer Fay Isaguirre Singson said on Tuesday night that Napoles was checked by Dr Elsie Badillo-Pascua and Dr Efren Domingo, the businesswoman’s doctors from St Luke’s Medical Centre.According to a progress report prepared by Pascua and Domingo, Napoles started complaining of vaginal spotting on May 17 and she was referred to them on May 19 due to bleeding.Because of Napoles’ condition, the doctors ordered complete bed rest.Singson asked the court to reconsider its earlier decision ordering the return of Napoles to Fort Santo Domingo not later than May 23.“She (should) be allowed further confinement until such time that the series of her regular and routine medical check-ups are completed to detect and avoid early and late complications,” she said in their motion.Alameda on Tuesday denied the very urgent motion of Napoles to allow the extension of her confinement. In his order, he noted that since a month has passed since Napoles underwent surgery, “her attending physicians may have already completed the once a week post-operative checkup for the first month including psychological examination.”Napoles had a total hysterectomy on April 23, after cysts were found in her uterus.
