The high-level delegation from China was headed by Hu Zheng, vice-president of China Merchants Group, and included representatives from several companies who contribute to the development of the “Double Happiness Island”, China’s first artificial ecological island that is to be built in Xiamen Bay, Fujian Province, one of the most important economic development zones in China.
During their visit to the Oyster sales and marketing centre, officials from United Development Company (UDC) - master developer of The Pearl-Qatar, offered a detailed presentation about the project, its features, the level of progress that has been achieved as well the diversity of facilities and services provided.
The Chinese delegation spent a total of two hours, showing particular interest in the district cooling systems operated by Qatar Cool and listening to a detailed explanation about the main advantages of district cooling and its offerings on the Island.
The delegation was further introduced to the sustainable vacuum waste collection and recycling system (Envac), which is applied on the Island, giving it a competitive edge over other developments in the region for adopting environment-friendly systems of operation.
After the Oyster presentation, Zheng and other members of the delegation joined UDC officials on an exclusive yacht tour of the Island, which gave the visitors a first-hand look at the magnitude of the Island’s development and the enormity of the investment opportunities available there.
Zheng described The Pearl-Qatar as “the most spectacular manmade Island he has ever seen”. “We have heard about the fascinating project, The Pearl-Qatar, and so it was important for us to get a live perspective of the Island and to learn about some of its wonderful areas and districts, especially that we are creating a similar concept back home in China.”
He concluded, “We are glad to have taken this trip to Qatar and The Pearl, which has gained a global reputation of spearheading the construction boom that the country is witnessing, in the area of mixed used developments in particular.”
The comprehensive guided tour comes as part of a series of regular visits to The Pearl-Qatar that are extended to high-profile investors, government officials and business leaders from around the world.
