PHCC marks World Family Doctor’s Day

The celebration is recognition to family doctors to highlight important issues and the work performed in supporting healthcare for all people in the local communities, the nation and around the world.

Dr Shawqiya Salman al-Majid, consultant Family Medicine and the manager of Umm Ghuwalina Health Centre, explained the importance of the family medicine specialty.

“Our job is to help and serve the families. A family doctor concerns about the family treating common diseases and informing the members on how to avoid chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes”.

In addition, she spoke about her daily routine in the health centre. “As health centre manager, my job consists of dealing with possible issues between the employees, and other matters that can take place in the health centre”.

Dr Shawqiya is also working in clinics where she is directly connected with patients. “Being there for patients is one thing that I enjoy the most when they seek our care.” She highlighted that a part of her job is giving patients the advice to have a healthy lifestyle and prevent complications in diseases.

“We have realised that our health centre needs to be expanded to facilitate better care to the patients. This extension will give more space and it will allow opening more services to offer the best quality of care to our patients”, she added.

“Additionally, the appointment system is a great advantage for the patients. Through this innovative system, we are notably reducing the waiting time to our patients, which is an amazing advancement since the patient satisfaction is our main aim and goal”.

Dr Shawquiya, moreover, personally checks the suggestions of patients. “I review and read their comments and try to improve and attend to their requests. We have a very good relation with our patients because we consider them as part of our family. We usually receive calls at home asking for recommendations or help.”
