HSBC Private Bank sets up Turkey desk in Zurich
HSBC Private Bank has established a new Turkey desk in Zurich to further grow its leading market position in the growth region of Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey (Menat).
Ebru Öncü, who is currently the head of private banking in Turkey, was appointed as global private banking business head for Turkey to lead the new market unit in Zurich.
Sobhi Tabbara, global head of Menat for global private bank, said the establishment of a new Turkey desk in Zurich represents a significant initiative as the bank continues to grow its market leading position in the Middle East and Turkey region.
Tabbara added that the new desk builds on the bank’s strong domestic platform in Turkey and positions the company as the “international private bank of choice” for Turkish clients globally.
“I am delighted to have someone of Ebru’s calibre to drive this business forward,” said Tabbara, who added that Öncü assumed her new role in May 1, 2014.
Tabbara said Öncü will be responsible for all client marketing and servicing activity for Turkey as well as managing all Turkey relationship management teams globally. She will also drive collaboration with the other business units across booking centres. Born in Istanbul, Öncü has more than 20 years of experience in corporate and private banking and is a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration. She also holds a master’s degree in International Business and Finance from the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business in Columbus.
