People are undisputed winners, says Modi

IANS/New DelhiBharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi yesterday said local issues could not be discussed during campaigning for Lok Sabha polls.“Due to the Lok Sabha campaign, the local issues of all these states could not be discussed in a manner in which they ideally should have been,” Modi wrote in his blog, adding: “I did make it a point to talk about my experiences in these poll-bound states wherever I went across the nation.” He described the 16th Lok Sabha polls as “historic”.“The biggest festival of democracy has just concluded and in those lakhs of EVMs lays the verdict of the people of India,” he wrote, noting that though counting of votes will take place on May 16 “today we already have the undisputed winners and they are the people of India.”Noting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections will stand out for the increased turnout, he said: “Whenever polling would end for a particular phase, I would eagerly wait for the polling numbers and invariably my joy would increase seeing the jump in turnout.” BJP president Rajnath Singh said the highest turnout was a clear indication of change and people wanting a government with a full majority.In a statement, Singh said the people wanted to give a full majority to a BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government under the leadership of Modi.“The highest polling in 2014 election was a clear indication of people wanting a stable, effective government with full majority,” Singh said.“It is naturally a reflection of people’s desire for change (of government),” he added.The BJP leader said he was confident the NDA will get full majority and “we will take the country to new heights.”Meanwhile, National People’s Party chief P A Sangma yesterday met Modi and apprised him of the political situation and economic problems in the northeastern states.
