The tentative release date is now May 23.Kochaidaiiyaan, produced by Eros International and directed by Rajnikanth’s daughter Soundarya, promises “advanced special effects never seen in Indian films.” But the film has been repeatedly delayed for the past three years. However the star’s fans were pacified with intermittent press releases, an audio launch and a recent preview for his select friends. Besides fan frustration, the current delay has also inconvenienced film distributors and theatre owners who have borrowed heavily and stalled the release of other films. A Chennai-based theatre sold 13,000 tickets online for the first day show but now faces angry fans and possible lawsuits.Meanwhile Rajnikanth who is very publicity shy opened an account on Twitter last week and announced his next film Linga to be directed by K S Ravikumar. Man arrested for hoax callsS Shivakumar, 23, from Bangalore was arrested for allegedly making three hoax calls that bombs would explode at Chennai Central station last week.Shivakumar, a school dropout, confessed he had been making such calls for the past three years since his first employer sacked him from a sweet shop. He had called up the shop saying that a cooking cylinder would burst that night.He also used his fluency in languages to call up families with missing members who had advertised in newspapers announcing rewards for informers. Shivakumar pretended to have information and collected money from these families before going underground. Chennai police traced him through his cell phone records and social network profiles.15 injured as bridge collapsesAt least 15 workers were injured when a portion of a bridge under construction collapsed on the Hosur-Chennai highway last week.Local residents said that the Tamil Nadu government-funded Rs4mn project had stalled for three years due to red tape. However work had resumed recently after a compromise and the workers had been busy filling cement into the iron pillars when they gave way and fell on them. The Public Works Department (PWD) remained silent to accusations of inferior construction materials and unsafe working conditions.May Day to be Swathi DayThe Southern Railway has announced that it would mark May Day as Swathi Day to commemorate the 22-year-old software engineer who died in a bomb blast on the Kaziranga express that halted at Chennai Central Station on May1.Swathi Prachuri was on her way to her hometown in Karnataka when the bomb exploded.Meanwhile new safety measures of SR include queuing up an hour earlier for security check at all entrances of railway stations, extra patrol of bomb squads with trained dogs and advanced surveillance cameras.Govt suspends IPS officerThe Tamil Nadu government has suspended Archana Ramasundaram, a senior officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), after she joined as the first woman additional director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi.Archana’s appointment was cleared by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February this year. However the Tamil Nadu government did not accept this.
