Rahul accuses BJP of being double-faced

IANS/Gonda, Uttar PradeshCongress vice president Rahul Gandhi yesterday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of being double-faced, alleging the main opposition party and its allies targeted people from Uttar Pradesh in Maharashtra but make promises of transforming the northern state during elections.Addressing a Lok Sabha election rally here, Gandhi also targeted the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and alleged these parties had failed to deliver development in the state.He said the Samajwadi Party, the BSP and the BJP, which have ruled Uttar Pradesh for over two decades, have failed to ensure proper roads and electricity in the state.“They left behind issues of electricity and roads. The past 25 years were wasted,” Gandhi said.He also alleged workers of the BJP and the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra had targeted people from Uttar Pradesh, saying they have no place in the western state.“They come here and say we will change Uttar Pradesh. They have one face there and another face here,” he said.Gandhi said the Congress wants to boost employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.Meanwhile in Patna, Congress president Sonia Gandhi targeted BJP leader Narendra Modi, saying he was talking of corruption but his track record in tackling graft in Gujarat was very poor.“Lecturing against corruption is one thing and reality is another. In Gujarat, people found involved in corruption cases are in his cabinet. For the past 10 years, the post of Lokayukta is lying vacant,” Gandhi said, addressing a Lok Sabha election meeting in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur parliamentary constituency.She said Modi was hiding corruption under his government in Gujarat. “If he is so clean and serious to fight corruption and lecturing others, why is a graft accused in his council of ministers?” Gandhi asked.She reminded the people it was the Congress-led government that brought the Right to Information Act, which has highlighted many corruption cases.Gandhi also attacked Modi for “lecturing” as if he was the “cleanest of them all,” and advised him to read history again to know the truth about the contribution of the Congress in transforming India since independence.She refuted Modi’s allegations that the Congress did nothing for the country.“In its 67 years of rule since independence, Congress made many sacrifices to uphold unity and integrity of the country and initiated many pioneering steps to take it on the path of progress. The Congress has been working for inclusive development and to progress with unity in diversity. But the BJP’s aim is to divide society on the lines of caste and religion for votes.”
