The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara is set to organise a marine contest – Al-Meyani – on May 15-16 for children aged 10-16 years.

The competition will be based on the Sanyar Festival – the pearl diving and traditional fishing contest – where teams, each made up of eight children, will board dhows in a fishing cruise under the supervision of sailor and navigator.

The contest is scheduled to be launched at Katara beach on May 15 at 4:30pm. The competition is mainly meant for educational purposes and all participants will be honoured.

“Katara is keen on reviving the marine heritage of Qatar with all its aspects and details including its linguistic vocabulary, and such an occasion is part of our efforts in this direction,” said Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager, Katara.

He urged parents to encourage their children to register for this contest because of its various educational and ethical benefits.
