Hundreds of guests, mostly students, have visited the Qatargas booth during the QP Environment Fair held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

With the theme “Use of Water in the Oil and Gas Industry,” the event witnessed the participation of Qatar Petroleum, its joint ventures, and subsidiaries in an effort to promote environmental awareness.

The Qatargas booth showcased the company’s initiatives to reduce the consumption of water and increase its reuse. Also, visitors were given tips and information on water and its importance by using several interactive methods.

Children were also treated to a special colouring area where they explored their creative side using themed drawings on water conservation.

A touchscreen that showed how much water was used to produce typical foods highlighted the booth by illustrating the water footprint of several everyday food items.

Another feature of the booth was the game entitled “How much water can you save?” It allowed players to compete and at the same time save water.

The highlight of the booth was the demonstration of the company’s advanced wastewater management plans. Qatargas said it seeks to achieve sustainable wastewater reuse by utilising biological-membrane bio-reactor (MBR) and tertiary reverse osmosis (RO) technologies.

The Qatargas Environment Division also presented a paper on the “Qatargas Wastewater Reuse Program.” The programme aims to target near zero water discharge at Qatargas LNG and Laffan Refinery process facilities by reusing treated wastewater.  As part of the programme, Qatargas is investing in advanced water recycling and reuse technologies.

“These changes present complex engineering challenges at Qatargas as they are being implemented in an operating plant,” Qatargas said.

“Once completed, the programme will help Qatargas recover and reuse nearly 70% of processed wastewater and maintain a sustainable wastewater reuse programme through the life span of its facilities,” it added.
