PICTURE: Nasar TKBy Sports Reporter/DohaLeslie Chauncey’s brilliant performance powered Qatar Sports Club to a 129-113 victory over Al Wakrah in the Emir Cup basketball tournament last evening.At the Gharafa Indoor Hall, Chauncey was at his devastative best as he scored a match-high 42 points to help Qatar Sports Club overcome minor deficits at the end of the first and second quarters to post a creditable win.Chauncey was in such splendid touch that he scored at a rate of more than a point a minute for the 35-41 minutes he was on the court.He scored 15 field goals and shot a whopping eight three-pointers from 18 attempts as Qatar Sports Club overcame 31-27 and 58-55 deficits before edging 85-83 ahead after the third quarter.In the final quarter, however, Qatar Sports Club were literally untouchable as they scored a whopping 44 points that took the wind out of Al Wakrah’s sails.Melquan Bolding gave Chauncey fine support with 25 points, while Ahmed Mahmoud had 21 and Gregory Felix 17.For Al Wakrah, Calvin Cage Jr produced a fine effort with 37 points, while Kenneth Wilson had 33 and Desean Anthony had 23.In the second match of the day, El Jaish edged Al Sadd 90-85 with Deangelo Downey and Larell Taggart scoring 27 and 19 respectively and Nathaniel Johnson contributing 15.El Jaish, who trailed by 10 points (29-19) at the end of the first quarter, gradually got the measure of their rivals and edged forward before hanging on gamely to complete a creditable win.For Al Sadd, Alpha Bangura scored 29 points, while Saeed Erfan Ali had 18 and Solomon Bozeman 14.
