A Doha court of appeal has acquitted a Qatari national of forgery charge, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
Earlier the Court of First Instance had sentenced the national to 10 years in jail.
The man was accused of selling a car using a forged signature on an official document. The forgery came to the authorities’ notice, when he tried to lease his vehicle to a company.
However, when the issue came to the prosecution, he was charged with forgery and sentenced to 10 years in jail in a trial in absentia.
The Court of Appeal was convinced that there is no valid evidence to prove that the forgery was done by the accused himself. It was also pointed out that he would not benefit from such an act and hence acquitted.
