Pictures: JayanBy Sports Reporter/DohaMokhtar Ghayaza poured in 21 points as Al Khor scored a 79-70 win over Al Wakrah in the Emir’s Cup basketball tournament last evening.At the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall, Ghayaza was in splendid form as he converted eight of his 13 field goal attempts and four of four free-throws to lead his team to what in the end was a comfortable victory.Al Khor were consistently ahead, leading by four points at the end of the first and second quarters, and they it to 10 points at the end of the third which proved crucial in the end.Marquis Jones was close behind Ghayaza in the scoring stakes with 19 points, 12 of which came through three-pointers, while Antwon Hardy and Mostapha Niang had 16 and 14 respectively.For Al Wakrah, Kenneth Wilson scored a game-high 23 points but still ended up on the losing side. Temidayo Wale chipped in with 18 and Calvin Cage Jr had 16.In the second match of the day El Jaish defeated Qatar Sports Club 93-86 with Nathaniel Johnson scoring a match-high 29. Ali al-Turki (15) and Ahmad Mohamed (14) gave Johnson valuable support as also Dwayne Jones II who had 12.El Jaish had 13 points from turnovers and 16 second chance points, with their substitutes chipping in with a whopping 21.For Qatar Sports Club, Melquan Bolding shot 26, while Gregory Felix and leslie Chauncey had 25 and 18 respectively.Tomorrow. Al Gharafa meet Al Shamal at 5pm while Al Ahli play Al Rayyan at 7pm. Both matches will be played at Gharafa Sports Club.
