Lawyers take part in a London demonstration yesterday against planned cuts to the legal aid budget. Thousands of lawyers staged a walkout at major courts in England and Wales in protest at government plans to cut the legal aid budget by £220mn. Crown court proceedings in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool faced disruption, with only five out of 18 criminal courts sitting at the Old Bailey, while hundreds of solicitors and barristers also marched on the Houses of Parliament.
