Wednesday’s decision by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to withdraw their ambassadors from Qatar is indeed regrettable and surprising as described by the Council of Ministers in a statement.Despite such a shocking move by these GCC countries Qatar is not reciprocating by pulling out its own envoys which underlines the fact that the country’s relations with its brotherly GCC countries will remain strong and deep-rooted, combined with their one religion and common values. The three countries’ decision is disappointing to every GCC citizen who is looking forward to a close relationship among the peoples of the Gulf, characterised by love, friendship and brotherhood.Even the Qatari people had never expected such a diplomatic step from the brotherly countries. However, the leadership, the government and the people of Qatar will always maintain strong relations with brotherly GCC countries. The GCC countries and their peoples have one common destiny. Such sudden and shocking decisions will promote hatred between peoples and will deal a blow to efforts to bring about unity and integration. The Qatari Cabinet has reiterated that the country will always remain committed to its values and principles, and to its foreign policy, which gives priority to its good relations with the GCC countries and supports the GCC march. The Cabinet’s statement clearly reveals that the unprecedented decision had no relation with the interests and security of the GCC peoples, rather it was a difference in positions towards foreign issues.Qatar has always been open to dialogue, it has always been ready for dialogue with its brotherly countries, it has nothing to hide, and has clear relations with all.The decision to recall envoys will never be in the interest of the GCC countries. Qatar has been in the forefront of the Gulf countries serving the GCC issues and supporting all GCC positions. History proves Qatar’s continued support for the GCC unity. Qatar has always been away from all conflicts among the GCC countries, and has always supported the brotherly countries, and now Qatar will not reciprocate by withdrawing its ambassadors. The three countries’ decision will only serve the foreign agendas that seek to undermine the GCC unity amid critical regional and international developments. The State of Qatar will always remain a sovereign state that has a decent status and influential word among nations. The country will be preoccupied with meeting the current challenges of the Gulf region and the Arab and Islamic nation, and the basic requirements of our peoples for a decent life.We hope that the GCC countries will overcome this stage in order to face the current crucial challenges that need more unity and integration.
